Common questions about global mobility / corporate relocation

How does corporate relocation support work in Nigeria?

GVSS coordinates a relocation into Nigeria through a single assigned contact, confirmed for your assignment. The scope can cover pre-assignment planning, arrival support, temporary accommodation, executive home search, school research, neighbourhood orientation, local transport and settling-in. Work is sequenced against your assignee’s travel dates, with updates sent to your HR or mobility team at the agreed interval. Each element is scoped and confirmed before it is delivered.

In short

  1. Pre-assignment planning and relocation timeline
  2. Arrival reception and onward transport coordination
  3. Temporary accommodation or executive home search
  4. School research, campus visits and application scheduling
  5. Neighbourhood orientation and settling-in support

What information does GVSS need before supporting an employee relocation?

GVSS needs the assignment scope, the destination city and role, whether the assignee is moving with family, your mobility policy limits on housing budget and neighbourhood, and the travel dates if known. School-age children, accessibility requirements and your reporting preferences also shape the plan. GVSS reviews this before proposing a scope, because the right sequence differs for a single executive, a family posting and a multi-person project team.

In short

  1. Number of transferees and assignment dates
  2. Destination city and employer address
  3. Family and school-age children
  4. Housing budget and neighbourhood policy
  5. Reporting cadence and escalation contact

Important: GVSS is not an immigration, visa, customs or government agency, and cannot guarantee any official decision, processing time or outcome.

Not sure whether this covers your situation? Send GVSS an enquiry and the team will confirm what can be arranged.

The challenge we address

Managing international relocations across disconnected local vendors leads to administrative overload for HR teams, inconsistent assignee experiences, communication gaps, and unnecessary assignment delays.

Where We Work

Nigeria destination coverage

GVSS coordinates relocation across three cities. Each destination has its own arrival points, residential areas, and school catchment realities, so we scope the plan city by city.

One coordinator, one plan, three hubs — so a Lagos assignment that involves Abuja stakeholders still runs on a single timeline.

Who We Work With

Tailored pathways, one coordination model

One coordination model serves a corporate HR team and an individual family. What changes is the reporting layer and who signs off on each decision.

The Corporate & HR Path

Your mobility scope, run as one coordinated engagement

Scopes and reporting intervals are tailored to match your global mobility guidelines and executive compensation tiers, so the service fits your policy rather than replacing it.

  • Service scope and reporting intervals aligned to your mobility policy tiers.
  • One coordinated scope, instead of managing several separate local vendors.
  • Transparent milestone updates for HR and mobility managers throughout the move.
  • Consistent, supportive handling for assignees and their families on the ground.
  • Less administrative load on internal HR and corporate travel teams.

Why GVSS

One team, accountable for the whole journey

Scope of our role

GVSS coordinates local services on your behalf. We are not an immigration, financial, or regulatory authority: entry permissions and residency are handled by the relevant authorities, and school admission decisions rest solely with each school’s administration. Where those steps are needed, we help you understand the process and liaise with your own appointed advisers.

  1. One GVSS contact confirmed for your assignment, reducing internal HR and vendor coordination

  2. Reduced administrative workload for internal HR and corporate travel teams

  3. A consistent, supportive relocation experience for relocating employees and their families

  4. A clearer transition from arrival to active workplace productivity

Operating model

How destination services work in Nigeria

Destination services are the on-the-ground work that happens once an assignment to Nigeria is agreed: planning before arrival, an arrival plan agreed per request, somewhere to stay, finding a longer-term home, settling in, and a clean departure. GVSS coordinates these steps for companies and relocation management companies. It does not replace the immigration, tax, legal or payroll advisers a company already uses.

  1. Step 1: Pre-arrival planning

Planning starts before the flight is booked, because the start date constrains everything downstream. GVSS reviews the assignee profile, the destination city, the employer address, the assignment length and the household composition, then produces a written scope with a cost estimate. That written scope is what the arrival, accommodation and search steps are measured against, so an expectation is set before anyone travels rather than after.

    What GVSS needs

    • Destination city and property
    • Planned arrival date and, if known, departure date
    • Employer address and the expected daily travel pattern
    • Whether the assignee travels alone, with a partner, or with children

Dependency. Availability of any specific service is confirmed per request. GVSS does not reserve capacity at the point of enquiry.

  2. Step 2: Airport arrival enquiry and confirmation

GVSS currently accepts enquiries for arrival assistance in Lagos and Abuja. Airport, terminal and service availability is reviewed and confirmed for each request. A meeting arrangement is only made once passenger and flight details are exchanged and the request has been reviewed. The meeting point, the assistance provided and any onward transfer are agreed in writing before travel, and no capacity is reserved at the point of enquiry.

    What GVSS needs

    • Passenger names as they appear on the travel documents
    • Flight number and scheduled arrival time
    • Onward destination: terminal, hotel or residence
    • Luggage volume, where it affects vehicle choice

Dependency. GVSS does not hold airside, tarmac or gate access, does not meet passengers inside the secure area, and does not handle immigration formalities. Those steps are the traveller's own, with their immigration adviser.

  3. Step 3: Temporary accommodation

A residence is arranged to bridge the gap between arrival and a settled decision, not as a quiet default that becomes permanent. GVSS holds a short stay while the longer search runs, and both are scoped as separate pieces of work so the temporary option does not quietly turn into the long-term one. Leadwood Homes residences are based in Lagos; accommodation for Abuja and Port Harcourt is scoped per request rather than drawn from standing inventory.

    What GVSS needs

    • Dates the residence is required for
    • Number of occupants and the sleeping arrangement needed
    • Any accessibility, dietary or equipment requirement
    • Whether a pet will be staying in the residence

Dependency. Power, water and connectivity differ by residence. GVSS reviews what applies at a specific address using information supplied by the property manager, and confirms it before booking.

  4. Step 5: Neighbourhood orientation

Orientation is scoped to the shortlisted areas rather than delivered as a generic city pack. It covers what daily life actually looks like on a given street: how services are reached, what the commute involves in practice, what to expect around the property, and which decisions are worth making before arrival rather than after. The output is written for the specific household, because a family with school-age children and a single assignee need different information from the same city.

    What GVSS needs

    • The shortlisted neighbourhoods or areas
    • The household profile the orientation is written for
    • Any specific concerns raised by the assignee or family

Dependency. GVSS does not publish neighbourhood safety rankings or comparative crime data, and does not assess areas on the assignee's behalf.

  5. Step 7: Settling-in coordination

Settling-in is the unglamorous part that decides whether a move works. GVSS coordinates utility connections and account openings, furniture fit-out through Leadwood Furniture, introductions to the services a household actually needs, and the handover of the residence inventory. It is also where expectations get reset about what can realistically be completed in the first weeks.

    What GVSS needs

    • The residence handover date
    • Which services the household wants set up before arrival
    • Furniture requirements, if Leadwood Furniture is in scope
    • Anything the assignee needs in place before the first working day
  6. Step 8: Transportation

Corporate vehicle rental and chauffeured transport are arranged for airport transfers, daily commuting and multi-day itineraries. GVSS also works with vehicle suppliers for longer postings. Availability is confirmed per booking rather than held, so a transport element is always confirmed before it appears in a plan.

    What GVSS needs

    • Journey dates, times and pickup points
    • Number of passengers and luggage volume
    • Whether a chauffeur or a self-drive vehicle is wanted
    • Any repeat or recurring journey pattern

Dependency. Driver and vehicle availability are confirmed per booking. GVSS does not guarantee same-day supply.

  7. Step 9: Departure support

Departure is planned rather than improvised. GVSS coordinates move-out scheduling, the condition walk-through against the inventory record, meter readings, account closure and, where requested, outbound transport and an arrival-side handover. Anything outstanding at close-out is listed explicitly rather than left in an email thread.

    What GVSS needs

    • Planned move-out date
    • Whether a final walk-through is required by the property
    • Outbound travel details, if transport is needed
    • Any outstanding account or deposit correspondence

Dependency. Deposit return follows the tenancy terms and the property manager. GVSS cannot guarantee a refund or a refund timescale.

  8. Step 10: City-specific scoping

Coverage is scoped by city, because the same service is not equally available everywhere. Lagos has the deepest coverage: Leadwood Homes residences, home search, short-stay housing, transport and furniture are established there. Abuja is common for government, diplomatic, institutional and project roles, with housing and transport scoped per request. Port Harcourt is mostly project and rotational work, with housing and transport scoped per request and lead time driven by a mobilisation date.

    What GVSS needs

    • The destination city, and any second city during the assignment
    • Whether the role is city-centre based or site based
    • Any worksite or secure-site access requirements

Dependency. Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt are service coverage areas, not branch offices. GVSS does not publish offices in them, and availability differs by service within each city.

Where GVSS work stops

The following sit outside GVSS. They are listed so a client can brief their own advisers accurately rather than assuming GVSS covers them.

Immigration, visas and permits
Visa applications, work authorisation, residence permits and any representation before Nigerian authorities sit with the employer's own immigration adviser. GVSS does not process them, does not advise on them, and does not hold immigration privileges.
Airside and border formalities
GVSS meets arrivals outside the secure area. It does not hold airside, tarmac or gate access and does not escort passengers through immigration or customs.
Legal advice
Employment contract review, tenancy contract review and disputes sit with a legal adviser. GVSS coordinates the process and can introduce a local adviser where a client needs one, but does not provide legal advice itself.
Tax and payroll
Tax residency questions, payroll registration, withholding and statutory filing sit with a tax or payroll adviser. GVSS does not advise on these and does not prepare filings.
Regulated services
GVSS is not a school placement agent, an employment provider or a regulated immigration body, and declines any part of a request that requires it to act as one.
Guarantees and service levels
GVSS does not offer service level agreements, guaranteed response times or round-the-clock operation. Scope, availability and cost are confirmed in writing for each request.
